Nancy Sleeth, author of “Almost Amish: One Woman’s Quest for a Slower, Simpler, More Sustainable Life,” will lead a workshop called “A Simple Plan that Simply Works” at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, at the Center for the Environment building on the Catawba College campus.
Participants will leave with a personal action plan for de-cluttering their lives.
Co-sponsored by the college’s Lilly Center for Vocation and Values, the workshop is part of the center’s ongoing Faith, Spirituality and Environmental Stewardship series.
Sleeth, co-founder of Blessed Earth, a faith-based environmental nonprofit organization, has also written “Go Green, Save Green,” the first practical guide for going green from a faith perspective. She has been recognized by Newsweek and Christianity Today.
More than 10 years ago, Sleeth and her husband, Matthew, a physician, radically downscaled their family lifestyle, moving to a house the size of their old garage, getting rid of more than half their possessions and cutting back their energy use by more than two-thirds. Before this move to simplify their lives, Sleeth served as communications director for a Fortune 500 company and as an educator and administrator, most recently at Asbury University.
She is a graduate of Georgetown University and holds a master’s degree in journalism. The Sleeths live near their grown children in Lexington, Ky.
The workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, visit www.CenterForTheEnvironment.org or call 704-637-4727.
