A local nonprofit, Capstone Recovery Center, will have its second annual fundraising event in the first weekend in February. The event was established to help provide operating expenses for the center.
Capstone Recovery Center is a faith-based transitional substance abuse recovery program for women. Executive Director Miriam Ramirez established the Center after seeing so many women relapse into past abuse behaviors because they had nowhere to go after leaving treatment facilities.
The fundraiser is Saturday, Feb. 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Salisbury Country Club, 747 Club Drive. The cost is $25. Those who plan to attend must respond by Jan. 28.
The event will be held in the ballroom and will feature an auction of items such as loose stones of rubies, diamonds and sapphires. The stones were donated for the fundraiser to Ramirez and her husband, Dr. Oscar Ramirez, who is a counselor at the Center.
The theme of the event is, “You Are Precious in His Eyes.”
Precious gems and pearls, below wholesale price, will be the main attraction of the silent auction. Debbie Barnhardt and Andrea Cornatzer of Barnhardt Jewelers in Spencer will assist buyers with their expertise in gems.
Auction items include gift baskets and gift certificates.
Door prizes will also be offered.
Hors d’oeuvre and beverages will be served and special music is scheduled.
Two of the residents of the program will give their testimonies.
Marie Waller Ministries also will perform.
To participate in the silent auction, the entrance fee of $25 per person is required.
The Lighthouse Learning Center, the non-residential portion of the transition center, has blossomed, Ramirez said.
The participants attend classes — Healthy Living Skills, Jobs For Life, and receive counseling with Dr. Ramirez.
Straight Paths for Life, the nonprofit’s relapse prevention program, is also making great strides in preparing the women to be fully functional in the community, she said.
The women attend “Celebrate Recovery,” personal relapse prevention classes, as well as “Emotions that Harm.” The residents are required to participate in the non-residential portion of the program.
