RALEIGH (AP) — More than 3,200 North Carolina state employees have received pay increases from a special fund created by the General Assembly to adjust salaries to retain workers in high-demand fields and for increased job responsibilities.
Gov. Pat McCrory’s office announced Wednesday the workers received on average 4.2 percent salary increases, while some employees got raises of up to 10 percent.
The state government budget set aside $7.5 million annually for this year and next for a “Salary Adjustment Fund.”
More than half of the affected workers are nurses and law enforcement employees, who got pay raises of up to 4 percent. University of North Carolina system workers did not benefit because McCrory’s office says the campuses have other funding resources.
State employees have received one across-the-board raise since 2008.
