Sherrills sharp for Augusta

Brothers Keshun and K.J. Sherrill (West Rowan) combined for 33 points as Augusta beat Flagler 78-68.
Freshman guard Keshun scored a career-high 20 points, while senior post man K.J. had 13. Augusta (13-2) has won 10 straight games.
There’s a full slate of action tonight for local basketball teams.
In the CCC, North Rowan hosts East Davidson and Salisbury hosts Thomasville.
The North Rowan and East Davidson girls are both 2-0 in the league, but North will be playing without standout Brielle Blaire.
CCC girls varsity tipoffs are at 6 p.m.
In the SPC, East Rowan is home against Cox Mill, South Rowan is home against Northwest Cabarrus, and Carson is home against Central Cabarrus. Girls varsity tipoffs are at approximately 6:30 p.m., as they follow jayvee contests.
Avery Locklear is expected to return for South’s girls tonight. The high-scoring guard missed seven games with a hand injury.
West Rowan is at Davie for a non-conference varsity doubleheader that starts at 6 p.m. A.L. Brown is at West Charlotte for MECKA contests tonight.
• In one of the more amazing performances of all-time, North Forsyth’s Kedrick Flomo scored 48 points in his team’s 54-43 win against Asheboro, so he outscored the Blue Comets by himself.
Flomo, a 6-foot-1 guard who will play at Appalachian State, scored North Forsyth’s first 43 points and was the only Viking to make a field goal. Flomo’s temamates shot 0-for-27 from the field.
• East Davidson’s girls are ranked eighth and are the only ranked CCC team in the poll. North’s boys and girls and Thomasville’s girls received votes.
• Concord’s boys are the only ranked SPC team. The Spiders are fourth in the poll and received one first-place vote. Cox Mill’s boys and East Rowan’s girls received votes.
• In 4A, Mount Tabor’s girls are ranked seventh.
North Meck’s boys are fourth, and the Hough boys tied for ninth in the rankings.

Olivia Gabriel scored 36 points to lead Southeast’s girls to a 42-21 win against Mooresville. Shaleah Jolly, Maren Shumaker and Taylor Hairston scored the other points for the Patriots.
Southeast (10-4) is the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament that begins Saturday at Corriher-Lipe. Action starts at 9 a.m.
North Rowan Middle’s girls (12-2) and Southeast’s boys (13-1) earned the top seeds. Pairings will be listed in Saturday’s edition.
Erwin rolled 80-18 against China Grove and went 14-0 this season. Corriher-Lipe won 48-40 against North Rowan Middle.

Katon Harwood, a right-handed pitcher from T.C. Roberson High and one of the state’s top prospects has graduated a semester early and will pitch for the Mountaineers this spring.
He was named the top performer at the 2013 National High School Invitational in Cary after throwing a one-hit shutout against national power Florida Christian.

DAVIDSON — Lucas Troutman scored 28 points and finished with 12 rebounds to lead Elon in a second-half comeback and 87-85 overtime victory over Davidson on Thursday night.
Davidson had a 14-point lead with 4:45 remaining on the clock.
The Phoenix (10-8, 3-1 Southern) bounded back, outscoring Davidson 16-2 in the remaining minutes of regulation to tie up the game with two seconds remaining. Troutman scored four of the last seven points in regulation for the Phoenix.
A layup by Tyler Kalinoski for the Wildcats in overtime brought the game within one, and Elon responded by hitting all three of its final free throws to hang on to the lead.
De’Mon brooks finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds for Davidson (7-11, 3-1).
Troutman has scored in double figures in 13 of Elon’s last 15 games.
