EAST SPENCER — Town officials will close Long Street temporarily on Martin Luther King Jr. Day as leaders plan to hold a youth event in honor of the civil rights leader.
Mayor Barbara Mallet and the town’s board of aldermen said Monday they hope to hold a “Kids for King: Biking for a change” event on the town’s major thoroughfare from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., according to a press release.
The event, which is expected to begin at the intersection of Robin Circle and Long Street, will include a half-mile march. A special program will later be held at the East Spencer Fire Department. Youth are asked to bring a “fact” about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
