The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a wreck that occurred just before 7:45 a.m. Friday. The crash occurred at Rowan Mill and Mooresville roads.
John Cole, who was involved in the collision, described what happened. He was sitting at the red light on Rowan Mill Road when he was struck from behind. He said he heard two loud noises, a “boom boom.” Cole said he thought the truck behind him had been hit, but when he looked up he discovered the driver was unconscious.
He was unsure of her name, but he said he helped a deputy with the Rowan Sheriff’s Office remove her from her Dodge Ram pickup. The deputy checked on Cole and then the woman, who was unresponsive. An emergency services supervisor who happened to be in the area also helped. The woman was revived and taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
The truck hit with such force that it pushed Cole’s Honda into the intersection. The pickup’s front fender came to rest on top of the bumper of the Honda.
Cole said he was checked out by EMS, but refused transport to the hospital. He has some minor whiplash and a backache, but he said he is otherwise OK.
The Post is working to gain more information from the investigating trooper. Traffic was blocked and other motorists were being detoured onto Sherrills Ford Road. The scene of the crash was cleared with emergency personnel and troopers leaving the area between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
