CONCORD — A Concord man was arrested Sunday morning after authorities said he was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash.
Concord Police said 50-year-old Juan Antonio Torres Jr., of Academy Avenue in Concord, was traveling on foot in the 300-block of Concord Parkway South shortly after 2 a.m. when he was struck and killed by a motorist.
Officers said they gathered evidence at the scene that linked Darrin Eugene Edwards, 48, of Blue Sky Drive in Concord, and his 2014 Jeep Cherokee to the crash. He was arrested around 6 a.m.
Authorities said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash and are awaiting blood alcohol tests from the State Bureau of Investigation lab, according to a press release.
Police said Torres was struck on the southbound right of way near the entrance of El Patron. Emergency personnel told officers he was dead on arrival.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
Edwards was charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by vehicle.
He remained in Cabarrus County jail under a $100,000 bond Sunday evening.
