MOUNT ULLA — Two employees of a local garbage collection service sustained minor injuries when their truck overturned Monday morning.
Donald Morrison, 70, was driving the truck for his son’s company, Donnie Morrison Garbage Service.
Morrison and Chris Gwyn had just left the county landfill on Campbell Road after dumping a load of garbage and were headed home around 10:15 a.m.
Morrison said he drifted off the shoulder on N.C. 801 near St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, lost control of the truck and tried to correct. He crossed the center line and the truck flipped onto its passenger side. The truck slid on its side for about 30 feet before coming to rest across the roadway.
The men were trapped for about five minutes until passing drivers helped them get out.
Morrison and Gwyn declined further treatment after being checked out by medical responders. Morrison said he banged his knee in the crash.
Part of N.C. 801 was shut down until a tow truck could turn the garbage truck upright.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper D.R. Morgan said speed was not a factor and there would be no charges. West Rowan Fire Department also responded to the wreck, as did Rowan EMS.
