Woman accused of child abuse held under $150,000 bond

SALISBURY — A 27-year-old woman was jailed on Thanksgiving after authorities said she physically abused a child so severely the 5-year-old’s nasal bone was fractured.
Carrie Nichole Smith, of 1111 Third St., was taken into custody by Spencer Police, according to an arrest warrant. The report did not include when the incident occurred.
In the report, Spencer Police Office K.L. Williams said the boy also suffered “several bruises and abrasions to neck and both chest walls.” Authorities said the boy also had a large contusion on the right side of his head.
Smith was charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.
She was placed in jail under a $150,000 bond.
