BOONTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey boy was high on marijuana when he crashed his car, an accident that occurred just hours after he had gotten his driver’s license on his 17th birthday.
The Daily Record of Parsippany says no injuries were reported in the single-vehicle crash, which occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Boonton Township. Authorities say the teen’s car apparently drifted into an oncoming lane and struck a guardrail before running off the roadway.
The Butler teen told police that he had smoked marijuana about 30 minutes earlier. He’s charged with driving under the influence of drugs and also received numerous motor vehicle citations.
A 16-year-old passenger was also found to be under the influence of marijuana, but will be allowed to enter a diversionary program.
