On Nov. 30, “A Kannapolis Christmas,” the annual month-long holiday series hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, will return to Village Park. Sponsored by Coca-Cola, Hilbish Ford and S&D Coffee, the celebration brings both nightly entertainment and special holiday events to residents.
On Saturday, Nov. 30, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, complete with fireworks and live music by the Piedmont Choral Society, will officially begin the Celebration of Lights series. The ceremony will begin that evening at 6 p.m., with the fireworks following at 6:30 p.m.
The Celebration of Lights boasts more than 250,000 lights, and will take place nightly through Dec. 30, with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Each evening, from 6 to 9:30 p.m., residents will enjoy holiday entertainment, light displays, rides on the Winterland Express, visits with Santa, the Kannapolis Singing Bears and more. Residents are also encouraged to visit the interactive model train display, which will be open on select dates.
In addition to the Celebration of Lights series, the city is hosting a few special events throughout the month. On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Kannapolis Christmas Festival will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. The annual event is free to attend, and will feature a variety of family-friendly fun, including craft and food vendors, carnival rides, inflatables and live entertainment.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, families will enjoy an early start to the evening’s festivities. Beginning at 4 p.m., The Nativity Night, sponsored by The Compass Agency, will include a live nativity scene, live choir music, a petting zoo, pony rides, vendors and more. The Celebration of Lights will take place as usual that evening.
