The details for this photograph are sparse, but it’s something Grady Holshouser held onto all these decades because it includes his uncle Tom Austin, the man wearing a sailor’s cap and kneeling at the bottom left. Holshouser says his uncle was part of this diving team getting ready to search a local quarry for a drowning victim named Barnes. The picture was taken sometime in the early 1950s, he says. Holshouser adds that his uncle was awarded two Purple Hearts in World War II as part of the Glider Corps.
