East gets sweep

East Rowan’s boys moved to 2-0 with a 74-60 win against South Davidson on Friday in Granite Quarry.
East has its first 2-0 start since the 2007-08 season.
Donte Means led the Mustangs with 17 points. Austin Love had 16, and the Wyrick twins combined for 23.
Josh Moses had nine rebounds, and Harrison Bell had a solid game.
“We did well, we shot well early, and then we asserted ourselves defensively in the second quarter,” East coach Trey Ledbetter said. “We had signs of brilliant defense, and the good things is the ball’s going in the hoop right now.”

Lauren Thomas scored 17 points as East Rowan’s girls rolled to an 81-37 home win against South Davidson.
Shenell Pharr scored 14 points, and Karleigh Wike added 10 for the Mustangs (2-0).
South Rowan, East Rowan and West Rowan participated in a quad meet with Concord earlier this week at the Salisbury Y.
Concord’s boys won overall, while South edged East for second.
East’s Jason Troutman had the most impressive individual performance of the day for Rowan swimmers, qualifying for regionals and bringing home wins in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Stetson Johnston (2nd in the 200 IM and 100 back) and Dustin Jenkins (2nd in the 500 free) led the way for South’s boys.
South won the girls meet, beating Concord by a razor-thin margin of 167-164.
East finished third.
Nicole Mauldin (100 backstroke), Leslie Franks (200 IM), Taylor Kluttz (100 freestyle) and Faith Casswell (200 freestyle) won events for the Raiders.
South also got wins from its 200 medley relay (Casswell/Franks/Kluttz/Mauldin) and 200 freestyle relay (Mauldin/Samantha Kennerly/Sabrina Broadway/Casey Pruitt).
Mauldin (50 free and 100 back), Franks (200 IM and 100 brst) and Casswell (200 free) qualified for regionals, along with all three Raider relays.
Brooke Waller led the way for the Mustangs with a win in the 100 butterfly. Waller qualified for regionals in the event.
The North Hills varsity girls lost 39-38 at Gaston Christian.
Natalie Whicker had 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Eagles.
Sierra Eagle scored 10.
• The North Hills varsity boys lost 62-60 at Gaston Christian.
Chris Taylor scored 30 points for the Eagles. Collin Lewis scored nine.
West Rowan Middle’s girls defeated Corriher-Lipe 22-19.
Morgan Corriher scored nine points for the Bulldogs. Parker Greene had 14 rebounds, and Tyenna Krider had three blocks.
Taylor Wiggins scored 14 for the Yellow Jackets.
West plays Mooresville on Monday.
• West’s boys won 51-22 against the Yellow Jackets.
Caleb Mauldin had 21 points and six rebounds. He had 19 points at halftime.
Owen White had 13 points and seven rebounds. Bryant Young scored six.
Savion Thompson scored eight for the Yellow Jackets.
• Southeast’s girls won 45-37 against Knox.
Olivia Gabriel scored 22 points for the Patriots.
Maren Shumaker had 13. Alexandra Linder had six.
• Salisbury Academy’s girls won 30-21 against North Hills.
Maria Capito scored 19 points for the Jaguars (3-1). Ellen Simons scored five points.
Ivy Overcash led in steals, while Anna Louis Lewis led the rebounding. Other standouts were Anabel Barr, Emily Mann and Isabel Temple.
Livingstone lost 71-62 at Miles to fall to 3-2.
Tiffany Evans and Alexis Hicks scored 13 points each for the Blue Bears. Wendy Foster had 13 blocked shots and eight rebounds.
Mike Smith scored 27 points as Pfeiffer’s men won 80-70 against Barber-Scotia.
David McNair had 14 rebounds for the Falcons.
Keyvon Jones led Barber-Scotia with 16 points.
• Pfeiffer announced the signing of Charlotte United Christian Academy guard Stefan Kostic. He averaged 18.6 points last season.
