Authorities are looking for a pair who reportedly robbed a man and tried to force him to withdraw money from the bank inside Walmart.
The Salisbury Police Department received a phone call from the victim, Derrick Ross, 47, who said he had just been robbed while walking near the store at 323 S. Arlington St.
The incident occurred Thursday shortly before 6 p.m.
Ross said he was walking on the sidewalk when a newer model Dodge Charger pulled up beside him. The driver, who Ross said he didn’t know, demanded money that he said Ross owed him.
Ross said he didn’t owe the man any money, a department report said.
The driver was wearing a red baseball cap and had dreadlocks. A passenger, who was described as being in his 20s, also wore a red baseball cap and a red jacket. His head appeared to be shaved. Both are black males.
Ross believed the driver had a handgun. The passenger got out of the vehicle and checked Ross for weapons, which he did not find. Instead, Ross had $60, which the passenger took.
He then forced Ross to go inside to the Wood Forest bank to make a withdrawal. The passenger went inside with Ross and while there Ross called authorities. The suspect saw him make the call and left the store. Ross did not withdraw any money from the bank.
Ross said he didn’t know the passenger either and didn’t know anything about money the suspects said he owed, Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said.
