SALISBURY — On Monday, 35 veterans came to Sacred Heart Catholic School in an annual event sponsored by the student government association.
Rear Admiral Douglas G. Morton was the guest speaker. He spoke to the students about sacrifice and service and how he stood in admiration of the men and women who were present with him.
Alex Antosek, SHCS student body president, had the opening remarks and thanked the veterans for their service. Mary McCullough, student body vice president, offered a Veterans Day prayer of thanks. Following, each of the 35 veterans stood and told the students their names, their division of service and the years they served. Each veteran received a round of applause from the students.
Morton was pleased to meet veteran Chief Warrant Officer Thomas S. Baker, who served in the Navy from 1938-1969. After the program, each veteran was served breakfast and had an opportunity to speak with the students.
