CHINA GROVE — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will have a public meeting Tuesday in China Grove regarding the proposed relocation of Old Beatty Ford Road.
The meeting is from 4-7 p.m. at the Kannapolis Moose Family Center, 990 Old Beatty Ford Road.
It’s a way for residents to learn more about the project, which will construct a two-lane road on a new location with a new grade separation over Interstate 85 near Kannapolis, Landis and China Grove.
During the project crews will relocate Old Beatty Ford Road from its intersection with Bostian Road to Lentz Road, a meeting notice said.
The bridge carrying existing Old Beatty Ford over I-85 will be removed as part of the project.
There will be no formal presentation during the meeting, but NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions.
Residents will have the opportunity to submit questions or comments in writing.
According to the notice, the project is currently scheduled for right-of-way acquisition in September 2014 and construction in September 2015.
The Cabarrus-Rowan Metropolitan Planning Organizations Comprehensive Transportation Plan has identified this section of Old Beatty Ford Road as a major thoroughfare that needs improvement. The purpose of the project is to increase safety.
