RICHFIELD — Detectives with the Rowan Sheriff’s Office returned Friday afternoon to the River Road home where just a few days earlier J.D. Furr was found murdered and his daughter, Sandra Steen, beaten.
Jeff Steen, found his mother, 62, lying in the gravel driveway of the home, which is in a remote part of eastern Rowan County.
His grandfather, 87, was found behind the house, reportedly beaten to death.
Jeff Steen told other media outlets his mother and grandfather had been outside since sometime Tuesday night. He spoke to her briefly before she was taken by ambulance to Stanly Memorial Hospital. She has since been transferred to an unidentified hospital in the region.
A family member last saw Furr and Sandra Steen around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home, located off Stokes Ferry Road. There are very few close neighbors to the 82-acre property.
Friday afternoon 911 communications received a phone call saying Jeff Steen had returned to the home and was removing crime scene tape. When a Post reporter arrived to River Road, Steen was not there, but detectives were on the scene.
Investigators did not comment, but were seen near a detached carport, near where Furr’s body was found on Wednesday morning. A Rowan Sheriff’s spokesman said Friday afternoon there were no new details available.
Officials have said there was a robbery at the home and items were taken, but have not said what was stolen.
A phone call to Jeff Steen was not returned.
