Spencer man charged with robbery takes police on foot chase

Police charged a Spencer man with robbery after a short foot chase through downtown Salisbury Friday night.
Salisbury Police charged Demario Alfredo Peck, 25, of the 400 block of North Yadkin Avenue, with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer.
An officer was called to Old Concord Road and Shaver Street for an armed robbery. The officer spotted two men near East Fisher and South Lee streets who matched a description that had been given. When the officer turned his patrol car around the two were gone. The officer caught up to the two men not far from the 200 block of East Fisher Street, near Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home, a report said.
The two men took off running into the woods behind the funeral home and the officer followed. One suspect, later identified as Demario Peck, stopped short after the officer threatened to use a Taser device. The other suspect was not caught.
Peck has been convicted of misdemeanor common law forgery and larceny and drug possession. He was just released from prison five months ago following a 2011 conviction for felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
