Prep soccer
Carson’s soccer team rolled 8-0 against East Rowan in SPC play on Thursday.
Carson led 7-0 at the break.
Ivan Hernandez scored the first Carson goal, and Fox Correll scored on a free kick from 30 yards.
Brandon Flores scored the next three goals. Raunel Vasquez had an assist. Correll’s corner kick set up a goal.
Goals by Vasquez and Correll finished the first-half scoring.
Garrett Owens scored the second-half goal, with Sam Cooley assisting.
Carson honored its seniors.
Prep tennis
Draws for the first round of the individual state tournaments were announced.
1A and 2A tournaments are in Cary. 3A is in Burlington.
In 1A singles, Gray Stone’s Meghan Hedgepeth plays North Duplin’s Julissa Quintanilla.
• In 1A doubles, Gray Stone’s team of Libby Fowler-Brooke Herlocker plays West Columbus’ Emma Burroughs-Logan Elkins.
• In 2A doubles, Salisbury’s Kayla Honeycutt-Anna Flynn will play a Jordan-Matthews team of Lindsay Tate and Bethany Pyrtle.
• In 2A singles, Salisbury’s Kathryn Rusher plays Franklinton’s Madison Poupard, and Salisbury’s Grace Steinman plays Science & Math’s Jessie Huang.
Salisbury’s team of Alexandra Drye-Madeline Hoskins will play Clinton’s Hannah Smith-Caroline Barwick.
• In 3A singles, East Rowan’s Lizzie Weaver plays Terry Sanford’s Emma Edge.
Prep football
Mallard Creek, Havelock, North Rowan and Warsaw Kenan retained their No. 1 rankings in the AP state poll this week.
A.L. Brown plays at Mallard Creek on Friday.
Unbeaten Concord, which plays at West Rowan on Friday, is ranked sixth in 3A. Weddington, whose lone loss was to A.L. Brown, is ranked 10th in 3A.
North’s closest pursuer in 2A is still East Lincoln, with Franklin third, Carver fourth and Reidsville fifth.
West Forsyth is ranked seventh in 4A.
College football
With proper indentification, veterans will be admitted free to Saturday’s Winston-Salem State at Livingstone football game.
College tennis
Caroline Graham (Salisbury) went 4-0 at No. 3 doubles for Catawba’s tennis team this fall.
College golf
Appalachian’s women’s team won the Quinnipiac Classic in Cromwell, Conn.
Lily Yatawara shot 99-97 — 196 to tie for 30th.
Local golf
Sixty-two GARS members played in foursomes at Warrior earlier this week.
The low ‘A’ Flight player with a net of 64.34 was Mike Rowell. The low ‘B’ Flight player with a net of 63.47 was Ralph Brown. Low ‘C’ Flight player with a net of 63.43 was Grady Howard. Low ‘D’ Flight player with a net of 61.26 was John Goodman.
Middle school football
North Rowan Middle’s seventh-graders won 38-6 against West Rowan Middle.
Cam Gill had a 40-yard scoring run and a 2-point conversion for the Mavericks.
Jaden Perry scored on a 12-yard run and a 20-yard punt return and a 2-point conversion.
Logan Stoner completed a touchdown pass to Quintis Smith and also rushed 3 yards to score.
Stoner threw conversion passes to Justin McCremmon and Dayjuwon Cooke.
