North Rowan’s volleyball team won 26-24, 25-16 and 25-22 at Salisbury on Thursday to share the CCC regular-season championship with West Davidson, a winner Thursday over East Davidson.
Salisbury led 24-19 in Game 1 but couldn’t nail down game point. That’s where the match turned. Makala Lytton’s serving keyed North’s late comebck in the opening game.
Brielle Blaire had 23 kills to lead the Cavaliers. Ashley Blaire had four kills and three aces.
• Carson (25-0, 14-0) swept Northwest Cabarrus to clinch a tie for the SPC title. Carson is at Mount Tabor for a tri-match Saturday.
Salisbury’s Frank Adams III claimed his second eGolf Tour event of the season on Thursday when his 10-under 203 won the North Stone Open in Huntersville.
Adams shot 67-68-68 and won by one stroke. His paycheck was $12,000.
Will Collins (Salisbury) was in a three-way tie for second at 9-under. Collins shot 65-69-70 and won $5,440.
• Jim Benton made a hole-in-one at the Country Club of Salisbury on Thursday.
Benton aced the 155-yard No. 17 hole with a 5-wood.
It was his second hole-in-one. His partners were Bob Rusher and John Carter.
At Tuesday’s SPC tournament, Carson’s tennis team qualified three girls for the Midwest Regional to be held at Concord’s Les Myers Park on Oct. 18.
The doubles team of Laura Isenhour-Sara Lentz qualified. Mackenzie Menius was a qualifier in singles.
East Rowan’s boys placed second out of 22 teams in Wednesday’s United Way Invitational at Newton’s Southside Park. Carson was fifth; A.L. Brown was ninth; West Rowan was 11th, and South Rowan was 22nd.
East was led by Conor Honeycutt. He was eighth in 16:36. Other top finishers for the Mustangs were Josh Rowell (15th, 17:00), Chance Brown (17:19), Justin Allen (17:21), Cal Meyers (17:22), Jason Basso (17:37) and Jason Troutman (17:42). All East runners finished in the top 42 in a field of 153.
Zachary Marchinko finished fourth to lead Carson in a school-record 16:05.64. Other top finishers for the Cougars were Danyal Sherer (17:21), Garrett Ingold (17:22), Dylan Snider (17:47), Nick Cox (18:02), Hunter Kimball (18:27) and Grant Doby (18:50).
Kellen Corson (16th, 17:00) led A.L. Brown.
Jordan Bostian (17:31) led West Rowan. Next for West in the championship race were Cameron Butler (18:19), Dagan Williams (18:34), Joseph Ward (18:45), Cade Harrill (18:45), Wade Laing (18:53) and Miller Graham (20:16).
South Rowan competitors were Blade Blumenthal (19:30), Andrew Donahue (19:34), Tyler Rary (19:38), Colson Childers (21:39), Andy Overcash (21:59) and Jakob Rodgers (23:43).
Mooresville’s Tim Coffey won the event in 15:46.
Northwest Cabarrus’ Gil Gilreath was third in 16:00.
Asheville won the team championship with a score of 78. East’s score was 104.
Girls

In the girls race in Newton, A.L. Brown was eighth and East Rowan was ninth out of 14 teams posting team scores. East Lincoln won the team competition with a score of 76.
Northwest’s Emma Hand won in 19:00. West Rowan’s Rebecca Parker was third in 19:26. Northwest’s Kara Dunkle was fourth in 19:51.
Faith Blume (15th, 20:57) led East. Other top runners for the Mustangs were Tori Gaul (20th, 20:13), Haley Lyerly (22:19), Faith Faller (22:42), Anna Louise Alexander (23:25), Sydney Feriante (23:30) and Alison Smith (24:22).
Competing for South Rowan were Kasey Newton (23:29 and Jade Newton (26:33).
Kelsie Simpson (13th, 20:46) led A.L. Brown. Jela Lewter (21:31) and Briana Landis (21:35) were top-30 finishers in a field of 109.
The North Hills varsity and jayvee volleyball teams won conference championships with unbeaten records.
The jayvee Eagles won 25-11 and 25-19 against Covenant to finish 6-0. The varsity Eagles won 25-17, 14-25, 25-20 and 25-10 to finish 8-0 in league play.
• The North Hills varsity boys soccer team won the conference championship with a 5-0-1 record.
In a 3-3 tie against Covenant, Austin Patterson scored two goals, Leonard Murdock scored once, and Kevin Mitchell made 17 saves.
North Hills will start tournament play on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Daeshun Hargrave and Joseph Scott scored two TDs each as North Rowan’s jayvees rolled 34-0 at Lexington.
Corbin Smith directed the offense well.
Javin Goodine, Zion Debose, Stevie Thurston and Jaylon Brown led North’s defense, along with Jericho Alexander, who picked off two passes.
North’s defense scored twice on safeties.
• East Rowan won 20-6 against Northwest Cabarrus.
Tate Houpe threw TD passes to Michael Johnson and Cameron Caldwell, and Caldwell also caught a conversion pass.
Cole File had a scoring run.

Wesley Porter picked off two passes for East. Chase Fritz made 10 tackles. Norman Kelly made six tackles, two for loss.
• Salisbury lost 20-19 at East Davidson when the Golden Eagles stopped a late 2-point conversion try.
Salisbury nearly rallied from a 20-7 deficit in the final minutes.
D’Lang had a 33-yard scoring run for the Hornets, who were plagued by penalties and fumbles.
Harrison Smith threw a 43-yard scoring pass to Will Steinman for the Hornets.
Marcus Corry recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD.
• Andy Lear had scoring runs of 54 and 42 yards to lead Carson to a 31-14 win against South Rowan.
Bailey Rayfield scored on an 8-yard run for the Cougars. Rhine “Redfoot” Barnette scored on a 22-yard run.
Cole Howard kicked a 37-yard field goal and four PATs for the Cougars (5-1).
Brandon Mock led Carson’s defense.
For South, Austin Chrismon threw two TD passes to Trey Littlejohn. Clifton Welch made eight tackles and ran for a conversion.
• West Rowan’s jayvees got a big 23-20 win against Central Cabarrus.
Carson beat West. Central beat Carson.
Javon Quarles and Lee Poteat had rushing TDs for the Falcons, and Poteat threw a scoring pass to Juwan Houston.
L.J. Robinson rushed for 136 yards.
Robbie Cogburn kicked a PAT. Austin Flynn had a good game punting.
Austin Love, J.T. Sanders, Tyler Nichols, Otis Smith, Rodney Howell and Miles Poteat led West’s defense.
Knox’s eighth-graders won 22-0 against Erwin.
Jaleel Webster and Nick Austin were the leading tacklers. Raquan Mashore had a strip and a 52-yard return for a TD. Joe Steinman intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards.
Isaac Baker had a 65-yard TD run. Webster had a 16-yard scoring run. Austin and Steinman scored 2-point conversions.
Griffin Myers ran the offense. Fernando Ortiz, Jaise Rivens, Tyquan Smith, Tevin Mullenax, Rondarius Peele, Jordan Ward and John Pruitt led the blocking.
• North Rowan Middle’s eighth-graders stayed undefeated (5-0) with a 38-8 victory against Corriher-Lipe.
Jaden Jones returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and added a 55-yard scoring run.
Josh Ellis also had a kick return touchdown, and Matthew Hoosier ran 60 yards for a score.
North’s defense accounted for a safety, and Jacob Young kicked three PATs.
North is at Mooresville on Wednesday.
Knox won 9-0 against Corriher-Lipe.
Singles winners were Rachel Seifert, Bethanie Stauffer, Skye Mowery, Saleema Sabadaka, Maleah Corpening and Rainey Durham.
Stauffer-Sabadaka, Corpening-Robert Moulton and Lindsay Jones-Laura Bullock won the doubles matches.
Knox will host West Rowan on Tuesday.
Livingstone was swept by Winston-Salem State on Thursday. Carrie Blunt had 10 kills for the Blue Bears (13-11). LaPria Saunders had four aces.
