CHARLOTTE (AP) — The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says it’s considering allowing bear hunting in the central parts of the state.
The Charlotte Observer reported the agency is conducting a series of public hearings on the idea.
Meeting were held earlier this week in Williamston and Clyde. Another meeting is set next week Guilford Technical Community College.
There has been no bear hunting season in decades in Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Richmond, Stanly and Union counties.
Commission spokesman Geoff Cantrell says no decision will be made on authorizing a bear hunting season until after the comments from the public hearings are reviewed.
