Also at Tuesday’s meeting, City Council:
• After a closed session to discuss buying the former Grimes Mill property from Historic Salisbury Foundation for $247,000, City Council directed City Manager Doug Paris to seek an appraisal.
• Awarded a $258,265 contract to Lane Construction Corporation to pave portions of nine city streets, including Reeves Street, Richard Street, Fourteenth Street, Balfour Drive, Rink Street, Mining Avenue, Briarwood Drive, South Fulton Street and North Fulton Street.
• Awarded a $151,725 contract to Synagro Central LLC for operation of a residuals land application program for Salisbury-Rowan Utilities, saving about $19,000 a year.
• Abated the 2010 property tax bill for the Rowan Museum at 202 N. Main St., which was $6,768.26 including interest, to correct an oversight.
• Approved a right-of-way agreement with Duke Energy for 329 S. Main St. to provide electrical power to both the proposed school central office site and Integro Technologies next door at 301 S. Main St.
• Asked residents to volunteer to serve on the Housing Advisory Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and Alternate Methods of Design Commission. To apply, call City Clerk Myra Heard at 704-638-5224.
• Praised city staff for coming up with new activities like Movies in the Park, Yoga in the Park and the Family Campout from 3 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday at City Park including stargazing, hotdog dinner, fishing tournament and camping overnight at the park.
