Just wanted to let all of you know how special your cards, letters, phone calls and, most of all, your prayers have meant to me and my family.
It’s been a wonderful year. I met the woman of my dreams — Diane — and proposed to her in Yankee Stadium. Many of you came to our wedding, and I thought I was on top of the world. But on Friday, Sept. 23, I was humbled with chest pains and, fortunately, got to an emergency hospital in Kannapolis just in time. It turns out that I had a severe blockage in my heart. I was not even aware I had a heart problem, but my angel Diane had the wisdom to make me go to the hospital. I ended up with a quadruple bypass and was treated with the best of care.
The good news is that I came home on Saturday, two days earlier than expected, and Catawba upset Carson Newman on the same day! I actually had to take extra pain medicine because I got so excited.
Thanks to the Salisbury Post and Memories 1280 for letting everyone know my daily progress. I also want to give thanks to God for touching me and helping me understand that we need each other. It will be a few weeks before I’m back at the radio station because of doctor’s and the wife’s orders. You can email me at buddywsat@fibrant.com.

Webster’s dictionary defines fog in several ways. One definition is a state of confusion or bewilderment. Another describes a weather condition which makes it difficult to see very far ahead, if at all.
The tea party and its leaders are also in a FOG (Fear Of Government). This FOG is actually more dangerous than the two mentioned above. This FOG is also in a state of confusion, and definitely hinders any effort to see very far ahead. So when you hear or read about statements by members of the tea party, please excuse them. They just can’t see very far ahead because of the FOG.

I’ve recently read three articles in the Post that I don’t understand. Our forefathers came to this country for religious freedom. Now we have three people that want to override the rights of 3,000 that think we should have a (sectarian) prayer before the county meeting. I always thought that the majority rules.
The second is the county at some times holding closed meetings with only the commissioners present We elected commissioners, not a dictator chairman who runs a meeting as if it his company. All meetings should be open to the taxpayers and media.
The third is in regard to veterans. We have 7,000 veterans in this area that are still waiting to hear from claims filed over a year ago. Veteran Services Officer Elaine Howle should have more hours. If any hours are cut, we should cut the county manager’s hours in half. I think of veterans who have lost both arms and have hooks and can’t hold their young child or touch their spouse.
I served as an Army sergeant in World War II and have seen the needs of many veterans’ families. We owe them so much.

The information that the Post has been providing concerning Morrison’s Garbage Service is a bit incomplete. There are three companies with that name. While the owners, Martin, Donnie and Crash, are related, the companies are not.
Martin handles the waste management where I work so when the news about Morrison’s came out I spoke with him. He assured me the problems were not related to his company. However, the lack of information in the Post about the separation of these entities has caused his, and Donnie’s, customers to panic.
There are other companies attempting to take their customers because of the confusion. I just wanted to let all of Morrison’s customers know that if you are serviced by Martin or Donnie you will no doubt continue to receive the excellent service you have always received.
