SPENCER — Motorists who frequent Wil-Cox Bridge over the Yadkin River may want to start planning a detour.
The state transportation department is planning to close the bridge, which carries U.S. 29 over the Yadkin, for most of Wednesday and possibly Thursday.
In a press release Monday, the department said state inspectors are scheduled to perform a biannual inspection of the bridge.
Inspections are required to ensure the bridges are structurally sound and meet the needs of today’s drivers as is required by federal law, the department said.
Drivers are encouraged to use Old Salisbury Road to N.C. 150 to Interstate 85 South to Longs Ferry Road to U.S. 29 during the inspection period.
The department encourages motorists to use caution and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
