Falcons win in volleyball kicker

West Rowan’s varsity volleyball team won 25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 17-25 and 15-10 against Salisbury on Monday in a non-conference match.
Diamond Lovell and Jordan Kepley led the team in kills, while Anna Messisco and Ashley Wood led in assists. Jordan Kepley led in service points.
The Falcons are home today for a Southern Piedmont match against the Concord Spiders.
• Salisbury’s jayvees won 2-0 against the Falcons. Lainy Slate had two kills and two blocks, while Kate Murph and Rebecca Malloy had two aces each.
• Hickory Ridge won a 3-2 match against Mount Pleasant to improve to 9-1.
Hickory Ridge has a big home match with South Rowan tonight and is at Carson, which is still undefeated, on Thursday.

Dates are Saturday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 28, for Carson basketball clinics and parents’ night out.
The cost is $20 for either.
The cost includes basketball camp, pizza and drink.
Time: 5-9 p.m.
Ages: 5 to 12 (boys and girls)

The Carson girls basketball program will be hosting a clinic on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9 until noon at the Carson High gym.
Girls in grades 4-8 are invited. The cost is $15 and the gym will open at 8:30. Players should bring their own drinks and snacks. Please contact Brooke Misenheimer at 704-855-5034 to register.
Catawba kicker/punter Chad Hollandsworth was named SAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hollandsworth’s 47-yard field goal provided the decisive points.
He made his only PAT attempt, and he punted nine times.
Catawba plays at Livingstone at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Carson-Newman QB DeAndre Thomas was honored as SAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Newberry linebacker Edmond Robinson earned defensive accolades.
South Rowan’s girls lost 9-0 to Concord in SPC play on Monday.
Aspen Mushala, Sidney Starnes and Cierra Hunter played the closest matches.
The Carolina Thundering Herd, based in Kannapolis, stayed unbeaten in the United National Football League on Saturday.
Aaron Holsey (Salisbury) and Bobby Lee (North Rowan) made the key plays for the Herd in a 12-9 win against Anson.
The Herd plays the High Point Ravens this weekend.
Brady White of Newhall Hart in Santa Clarita, Calif., was the U.S. Army National Prep Player of the Week. White threw for 490 yards and seven TDs in a 55-54 win.
West Davidson and Randleman battled to a 3-3 tie on Monday, Cox Mill won 7-1 against Mount Pleasant, and Hickory Ridge lost 1-0 to Marvin Ridge.
