Barbara Doby hopes for return to board in China Grove after years of absence

Barbara Doby has had her hand in many aspects of the town of China Grove throughout the years from serving on the town board, historical society to helping organize one of the biggest events — Farmer’s Day.
Doby, 77, is placing her name in the race for town council among three incumbents and one other former councilman.
This would is not Doby’s first foray into politics. She served on the board in the late 1970s and added a second term in the early 1990s.
“I want to run because I am pleased with my community and my governing body. I’m pleased with the things that’s been accomplished and I want to be a part of the ongoing work,” she said.
Doby graduated from Landis High School and continued her education where she graduated from Queens College with a degree as a dental assistant. She is a retired business owner. Her children continue to run the family business, Doby’s Upholstery.
She is a member of First Baptist Church where she is a deacon, is president of the Historical Society of China Grove.
Doby and her husband, the late Charles “C.W.” Doby, have five children — Gene, Yancey, Frankie, Bevie and Tobitha.
