Carson soccer wins again

Carson’s boys soccer team got three assists from Logan Correll and won 8-2 against West Rowan in Tuesday’s SPC matchup.
Brandon Flores scored twice for the Cougars. Khalid Myers, Ricky Maldonado, Raunel Vasquez, Colton Correll, Aaron Lippard and Sylvestre Lopez had a goal each.
Carson (4-1, 2-0) hosts Hickory Ridge Thursday.
• Hickory Ridge won 7-0 against East Rowan on Tuesday, while Cox Mill topped South Rowan 3-0.
East Rowan got its first win of the season by beating Northwest Cabarrus in SPC play on Tuesday.
East won 15-7 in the decisive fifth game.
• Carson, 3A runner-up in 2012, stayed unbeaten by sweeping South Rowan for another SPC win on Tuesday. Carson is 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the league.
Salisbury’s David Uto won a CCC cross country meet on Tuesday.
Salisbury won 9-0 against East Davidson in a CCC girls tennis match on Tuesday.
Alexandra Drye, Kayla Honeycutt, Madeline Hoskins, Kathryn Rusher, Grace Steinman all won 6-0, 6-0. Anna Flynn won 6-1 6-0.
Drye-Hoskins, Honeycutt-Flynn and Rusher-Steinman won doubles matches 8-0.
Saisbury travels to Lexington today and to 4A power Ardrey Kell on Thursday.
In the Associated Press poll, Mallard Creek is No. 1 in 4A. Mount Tabor is 10th, Davie received votes.
In 3A, Havelock is ranked first. South Iredell is sixth, Concord is seventh, and Central Cabarrus is ninth.
East Lincoln is ranked first in 2A. North Rowan is ranked sixth.
Warsaw Kenan is No. 1 in the 1A ranks.

Fifty-four GARS members played a Texas Scramble at Corbin Hills on Monday.
The team of David Adams. Allen Hamill and Johnny Shook finished first at minus-9.
The team of Bobby Bryant, Ross Howard and Ernest Wagner tied with the team of Les Loman, Scott Miller and Gary Schenk for second.
Next was the team of Bobby Clark, Grady Howard, Clive Mahaffey and Vohn Peeler.
Howard won the longest putt on No. 9.
The winner in Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association league play on Tuesday was Susan Morris. Phyllis Durland was second, Kristi Laton was third, and Tony Iossi was fourth.
Joy Maughmer was the net winner, with Carolynn Reis second, Mary Seaford third, and Joan Havill fourth.
Ruth Bowles had low putts for the day.
• Andrew Morgan (South Rowan) shot 73 at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham but failed to advance in sectional qualifying for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. Salisbury’s Glenn Dixon shto 77.
Aimee Cloninger (Carson) had 12 kills, while Tiffany Brooks (South Rowan) had eight in a 3-1 win by Catawba Valley Community College against Spartanburg Methodist on Tuesday.
Cloninger had 13 digs, while Brooks had 3.5 blocks for the Bucs.
Mooresville won 6-3 against Knox’s girls tennis team.
Knox got singles wins from Bethanie Stauffer and Rachel Siefert.
The team of Siefert-Skye Mowery won in doubles.
Knox is at China Grove on Thursday.
Sacred Heart’s varsity won 5-2 against Hickory Christian.
Michael Childress had a hat trick for the Dolphins.
Will Taylor scored two goals, and Josh Faulkner was strong in goal.
Sacred Heart plays Friday at home against Concordia.
