Barry Medinger Jr. and Brooke Allen were feted the evening of Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the Salisbury Elks Lodge with a Beach Boogie Bash. The couple will unite in marriage on Saturday, Oct. 12 at historic Revolution Mills in Greensboro.
Hosts for the event were Mr. and Mrs. Barry Medinger Sr., parents of the groom; Mr. Nick Medinger, brother of the groom; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cunningham; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Edwards; Mr. and Mrs. John Henderlite; Mr. Mark Lawyer and Ms. Sabrina Rufty, uncle and aunt of the groom; Ret. Col. and Mrs. Grey Medinger, uncle and aunt of the groom; Mr. Ray Pope and Ms. Lisa Wear, aunt of the groom; Dr. and Mrs. Ozzie Reynolds; Dr. and Mrs. Mitch Siegel; Mr. Raymond Stowers and Ms. Sheila Hazlett, aunt of the groom; Dr. and Mrs. Bill Thompson; and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wicker, uncle and aunt of the groom. The couple were presented with gifts of several monogrammed bags and totes from the hosts.
Scarlett Medinger Knappenberger and Ashley Knappenberger, cousins of the groom, made and arranged a memory/suggestions table for guests to leave special messages for the betrothed couple.
Special guests for the evening were grandparents of the couple: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rufty of Salisbury; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Allen of Greensboro; and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ellis of Greensboro. Also the parents of the bride: Mr. Scott Allen and Ms. Cyndi Wastler, father of the bride; Ms. Allison Allen and Mr. Noel Bannock, mother of the bride; and Ms. Cathy Allen, stepmothter of the bride, all of Greensboro. Mr. Scotty Allen and Miss Carrie Allen, siblings of the bride, were also special guests. Other guests included members of the wedding party, family members and friends.
Music and entertainment for the evening was provided by Too Much Sylvia, a band from Charlotte. Decorations were provided and displayed by Clyde of Salisbury.

“Breaking Down the Doors of Injustice” was the theme of the 2013 Human Rights Celebration.
Salisbury Rowan CWU’s unit held a celebration Aug. 2 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with approximately 75 people in attendance including representatives of Roman Catholic, Episcopal, African Methodist Episcopal Zion, Missionary Baptist, Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Lutheran, United Church of Christ and United Methodist denominations.
Catherine Rivens, chair, opened the meeting, joined by Lynn Bolick, unit president and Vickie Kotlarck, president of the Catholic Daughters, unit chaplain, Gwendolyn Ellis, Dr. Phillip Burgess and Montrella Davis.
Doris Brown, president-elect, introduced speaker Scott Teamer, president of the local NAACP.
Two Human Rights Awards were presented: Lyn Bolick presented to Mrs. Jean Kennedy, citing her long career in public education.
Doris Boyd presented to Father Whayne Houghland, rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church since 2005 and elected 9th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan on May18.
School supplies were collected and donated to Communities in Schools. Manie Richardson, Ecumenical Action chair, received the gifts of school supplies as well as the offering which will be sent to the National CWU office to continue the work of the movement.

Granite Quarry High School’s graduating class of 1950 recently met at Ryan’s Restaurant.
Thirty classmates attended with spouses and guests.
President Nathlyn Fesperman Fisher welcomed the group with special recognition to Jean McCombs, a former teacher.
Marian Misenheimer Bernhardt gave a memorial tribute to classmates that died this year. They include Bill Julian and Frances Miller Linebarger.
Fisher presided over the business meeting, which included a reminder that the group meets the second Tuesday of every month for breakfast at 9 a.m. at M&K Restaurant in Granite Quarry.
The following will continue as officers: Nathlyn Fesperman Fisher, president; Roana Agner Bost, vice president; Gaynelle Fulk Morgan, secretary; and Frances Peeler Beck, treasurer.
A “thinking of you” card was signed by all for Bill Witty, a resident at Autumn Care Nursing Center.
For entertainment, questions were presented to the group pertaining to their days a Granite Quarry High.
