SALISBURY — A man was shot once in the back as he ran from an assailant Tuesday night.
Salisbury Police said late Tuesday they are in the early stages of an investigation, and because of varying accounts from witnesses, they are not totally sure where the shooting occurred and whether it is in Salisbury’s or East Spencer’s jurisdiction.
Police expect to issue a press release this morning.
Meanwhile, Sgt. J.M. Robertson identified the victim as Desjuan Clawson, 22, of Andrew Street. Clawson was shot once in the back, and he told police later at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center there were a total of three shots fired from a car that he and another man were running from.
Early reports put the shooting at North Shaver and East Cemetery streets, but police could not confirm that location Tuesday night. Bystanders at that intersection Tuesday night said they knew nothing about a shooting.
Clawson was alert and able to talk to law enforcement officers. He was shot a few inches from his spine with no exit wound, according to emergency communications.
The shooting occurred close to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Anyone with information on the shooting should call Salisbury Police.
