The Landis Police Department will host its annual National Night Out event today at the South Rowan YMCA soccer field from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. The event is free to the public. The soccer field is across from the Y at 950 Kimball Road, China Grove.
National Night Out is an opportunity for neighborhoods and communities nationwide to come together as a way to increase awareness about crime, prevention of crime and safety in the community. Many communities host rallies, youth events, block parties, meet local law enforcement and emergency personnel and participate in safety demonstrations.
There will be live music, games and activities for children including a chance to get inside sumo wrestling suits, go into the fire safety house and meet Sparky the Fire Dog. There will be a seatbelt simulator, and the event will end with a nighttime fireworks show. There will be hot dogs and ice cream available for $1 (Landis residents with photo identification may eat free).
