RCHSA (Rowan County Home School Association) will hold an informational tea on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 3 p.m. at High Rock Church on Jake Alexander Boulevard. This event is for anyone interested in learning more about how to home school their children. Charles Nettles will be speaking. He has more than 25 years of home schooling experience.
Salisbury Academy welcomes two new members to its 2013-2014 Board of Trustees — Angela Hall and Laura Lewis.
Hall is a graduate of North Carolina State University and a CPA practicing as a sole practitioner in Salisbury. She has served on many community boards for organizations including Community Care Clinic, Meals on Wheels, Smart Start Rowan, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Foundation and UNC-Chapel Hills’s School of Nursing Foundation. Her son Edwin attended Salisbury Academy from 1995 until he graduated as a member of the third graduating class in 2000. While her son attended Salisbury Academy, Hall served on several committees and was active with Parents of Salisbury Academy. Hall and her husband Ed live in Salisbury.
Lewis earned a degree in education from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master’s from Elon University. She is passionate about education and has served on the school improvement council in Fort Mill, S.C. for the elementary, middle and high school for more than 12 years. She also served as a parent liaison for the Fort Mill School District. During budget cuts, she spearheaded a campaign to ensure all schools in the district would continue to have registered nurses. Lewis moved to Salisbury with her husband Brien and two children, Josh, 17, and Anna Louise, 13, last spring. Anna Louise attends Salisbury Academy.
Salisbury Academy is governed by the Board of Trustees, which is chaired by Robert Anderson. Other 2013-2014 trustees include Matt Barr, Anne Scott Clement, Melody Lee, Clay Lindsay, Clint Robins and Rhonda Truitt.
