Intimidators win 2-1

Tony Bucciferro pitched seven scoreless innings to lead the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 2-1 victory against Hickory on Friday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Buciferro (1-3) also didn’t allow a run in his previous start. Tim Anderson had two hits for the Intimidators.
• Johnson City’s Nick Lomascolo (Catawba) fell to 1-2 when he lost to Greeneville, Tenn., in relief on Thursday.
It wasn’t a standard loss. Lomascolo pitched two hitless innings, but he allowed the deciding run in the eighth inning on a hit batsman, an error on his pickoff throw, and a sacrifice fly.
•Jordan Jankowski (Catawba) pitched a scoreless eighth inning on Friday to help Quad Cities hold a l1-0 lead and win a Midwest League game.
Both Area III teams lost on the first day of the American Legion state tournament in Wilson.
Kernersville fell 4-1 to Shelby, while Randolph County lost 5-3 to Lincoln County.
In the other games, Garner beat Jacksonville 4-2 and defending champ Wilmington beat host Wilson 9-1.

Register now for the Kannapolis Rotary Club’s third annual Nutrithon on Saturday, Sept. 7, in downtown Kannapolis.
Runners of all abilities can participate in 5K and 8K races, starting at 7:45 a.m. The course takes runners through the N.C. Research Campus and scenic greenways. The finish line celebration includes pizza and beverages for all participants.
A duathlon kicks off at 9 a.m. with a 5K run, 25K bike ride and 3K run to the finish line celebration.

George Benfield Jr. and Shane Benfield shot 1-under 71 and tied for ninth in the Father-Son Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association.
The tournament was held Friday at Seven Lakes Country Club.
• In the B Division, Roger Lyerly and Nick Lyerly shot 76 and tied for ninth.
Registration has begun at Hurley YMCA for fall soccer for ages 3-4 and modified T-Ball for ages 4-6.
