SALISBURY — An East Spencer man was arrested early Friday after a tip alerted police to what could have been a dangerous situation.
Just after midnight Friday, the Salisbury Police Department got an anonymous call saying three men with guns hidden in their shirts were standing on the corner of East Bank and South Clay streets.
When officers arrived and approached the men, they started to walk away.
Police say Dequan Chalk, 19, of Torbush Drive in East Spencer, reached behind him to take out a gun as officers told him to stop.
Officers then ordered Chalk to drop the weapon, according to the police report, and he started running behind a building at 512 E. Bank St. When he came back around to the street, an officer again told him to stop. He did, but there was no gun on him.
Police searched behind the building and found a handgun at the fence line.
Chalk was charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer; carrying a concealed pistol or gun; and utterance to provoke violent retaliation. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond.
