RALEIGH(AP) — North Carolina legislators are closing in on the last hours of this year’s General Assembly session.
Leaders of the House and Senate say their target for shutting down for this year is early Friday.
The Senate is expected to pass sweeping election law changes, including requiring voters to present photo ID at the polls and shortening early voting by a week. That measure then would head to the House for consideration.
Abortion is expected to be the hot-button issue that lawmakers grapple with before leaving Raleigh for the year. Proposed legislation would impose new regulations and restrictions on abortion clinics. The House and Senate passed similar versions of the measure.
