SALISBURY — Salisbury City Councilman William Pete Kennedy threw his hat back into the race for a record 11th consecutive run Wednesday.
Kennedy filed for re-election, along with fellow incumbent Karen Kirks Alexander. Kennedy has served on the council since 1993.
Kennedy and Alexander join incumbents Paul Woodson and Maggie Blackwell in filing for re-election. William Peoples Jr. and Kenneth Blake Jarman have also filed for the City Council race.
If elected, Kennedy would tie the late, former city councilman L.F. Cox, who served on the council for a record 22 years. Cox left the board in 1973.
Two incumbents and a challenger for the Spencer aldermen race also filed Wednesday.
Incumbents David H. Smith and Jim Gobbel, as well as challenger Mike Boone filed for election.
Boone will also face incumbents Jeff Morris and Reid Walters in the aldermen race.
Incumbent Keith Deal filed for re-election in the Faith aldermen race.
Deal is the only candidate to file in that race. All five seats, including the mayoral seat, are up for grabs.
Gerald Osborne, a challenger from Cleveland, filed for the town’s commissioners board.
Osborne will face incumbent Travis Summitt and challenger Richard L. Taylor.
