AT 3:26 PM EDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL…AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR CLEVELAND…OR 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MOCKSVILLE…AND MOVING SOUTHWEST AT 20 MPH.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Rowan County until 10 p.m.
The watch covers much of the Piedmont and into the mountains, including Cabarrus, Davie and Iredell counties.
A watch means conditions are right for severe thunderstorms to form — storms containing high winds, heavy rain and lightning, with hail possible.
A warning means an active storm has been spotted in the area.
