A Greensboro law firm has filed suit on behalf of the survivors of a May 25 boating accident that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her 3-year-old son.
Melissa Britt, 32, of Oak Ridge, and son Jaden Britt died after a speedboat operated by Michael Greene Sr. slammed head-on into the pontoon boat on which they were passengers.
Melissa Britt’s husband, was operating the pontoon boat and survived the crash without injury. Her brother, Michael Chambers, was a passenger and was also seriously injured.
The accident on Swearing Creek, on the Davidson County side of High Rock Lake. Melissa and Jaden Britt were thrown into the water by the collision. It took divers more than four hours to recover Melissa Britt’s body. Jaden Britt died on the way to the hospital.
Greene, 52, of McLeansville, was not injured, nor were any of his passengers, authorities said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, authorities said. Greene’s boat was traveling at a higher rate of speed than the pontoon, and after impact jumped onto the front of the pontoon, striking some the passengers.
Greene was charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter by the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office.
Lanier Law Group filed the lawsuit in Guilford County Superior Court and is taking statements from witnesses to the crash, a news release said.
