Three people injured in two-vehicle crash at US 29, Camp Road

Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of U.S. 29 and Camp Road. Multiple fire and emergency responders went to the crash, which occurred just before 4 p.m.
Bruce Dillon, 63, of the 5700 block of Lake Fisher Road, Kannapolis, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus with his wife, Christina Dillon, who was in the passenger’s seat. Highway Patrol Trooper H.T. Sloop said Dillon failed to yield to the oncoming car driven by James Brady. Brady, 68, of the 1000 block of Kimball Road, China Grove, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle on U.S. 29 when he was struck.
Sloop said Bruce Dillon attempted to make a left turn onto U.S. 29 from Camp Road. He’d just picked up his wife from work. Dillon was charged with unsafe movement. Emergency responders said they were initially responding to an entrapment. Bruce Dillon was temporarily trapped inside his vehicle.
Sloop said he believed Bruce Dillon had a broken arm. The Dillons were taken to Carolinas Medical Center, Sloop said, however, hospital officials have no record of the couple. Brady was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center and he was listed in good condition, hospital officials said.
Locke Fire Chief Rusty Alexander said extra manpower was called to the scene because the wreck stretched across four lanes of travel and initially emergency responders had to block the street to tend to patients. The front bumper was ripped off the Ford Focus and came to rest a few feet away. The driver’s side of the Ford was smashed and the left tire was torn from the rim. The Ford Focus traveled 113 feet after impact and came to rest on the side of the road in the grass. The Chevrolet traveled 197 feet after impact and came to rest across the roadway in front of Salisbury Fire Appliance Co., in the 4800 block of South Main Street.
The Highway Patrol, Locke Fire Department, Salisbury Fire Department, Rowan Rescue Squad and Rowan Rescue all responded.
