WOODLEAF — The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Hart Road near Woodleaf to replace a bridge over Fourth Creek this month.
NCDOT officials said construction is slated to begin on July 15, weather permitting, and the road will be closed to through traffic. Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses on either end of Hart Road but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of Fourth Creek.
The new bridge is expected to be complete by early December, according to a press release.
Officials urge motorists to use the signed detour route during the closure: from Cool Springs Road to Depot Road to N.C. 801 to Needmore Road to Hart Road.
The project is part of the transportation department’s $450 million state-funded bridge plan, the release said, which looks to preserve, repair or replace bridges statewide.
The Hart Road bridge was built in 1962. Officials said the new bridge will not be subject to the same load restrictions of the existing bridge, and will accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles.
