Alabama man charged with illegally hitching train ride

An Alabama man got a train ride from Greensboro to Cleveland and two misdemeanor charges for hitching a ride on a Norfolk Southern freight train. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Danny Cash, 52, of Azalea Road, Flomaton, Ala., with trespassing on railroad property and illegally riding on a train.
The incident occurred Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Kesler Road and Old U.S. 70 in Cleveland. Someone spotted Cash on the train and alerted authorities. The train had to make a stop while law enforcement looked into the matter. The Norfolk Southern Police were also contacted. When asked why he boarded the train, Cash told authorities he got on the train in Greensboro and was attempting to ride it to Knoxville, Tenn. He was issued a written promise to appear in court.
