Mocksville wins over Legends

Mocksville beat the Mooresville Legends 4-2 on Sunday in an American Legion league game in the Southwest Division of Area III. Nick Boswell pitched seven strong innings for the win, and Tanner Mathis was sharp in the eighth and ninth for the save.
Tati Shibota had two hits for Mocksville, while Mathis had a triple.
Devon Watts pitched well in relief for the Legends. Austin Hartness had two hits. Sean Parlee homered.
• In Southeast Division play tonight, Rowan County will send Connor Johnson to the mound at Stanly County.
Rowan also has scheduled a game with Garner at Newman Park on Tuesday.
Southern Rowan will play Kannapolis at Northwest Cabarrus High in a division game tonight.
Southern Rowan opened with a 6-2 loss at Rowan County on Sunday but impressed Rowan coach Jim Gantt.
“I like their team and I like the way they play,” Gantt said. “They’ve got tremendous speed.”
Southern Rowan is without catcher/infielder Eric Tyler (college) and infielder Eric Goldston (injury).
West Rowan topped Rowan County 3-2 in a Junior Legion league game on Sunday in Mount Ulla.
Bryan Ketchie pitched a complete game for West. Tyler Poteat had two hits, while Micah Marsh doubled.
Dustin Ritchie and Noah Gonzalez had two hits each for Rowan.
Rowan plays at Lake Norman tonight. West is home against South Rowan on Tuesday.
• Carson (9-4, 2-1) won against South Rowan in a league game on Sunday. Michael Morrison had four hits and drove in three runs. Ryan Bearden hit a two-run homer. Matt Jones had two hits and scored three runs. Dylan Snider got the win.
South Rowan beat Carson 15-2 in a non-league game. Morrison had two hits.
The Kannapolis Intimidators beat the Rome Braves 6-4 on Sunday.
Jason Coats keyed the victory with a three-run homer, and Micah Johnson went 3-for-4.
Those to will represent the Intimidators in the upcoming South Atlantic League All-Star Game.
Donte Minter, a former West Rowan standout who played college ball at Virginia and Appalachian State and a number of seasons overseas, is hosting a Basketball Skills Academy at Salisbury’s J.F. Hurley YMCA on June 24-27.
The camp is from 9-2 daily for grades 2-12. The cost is $65. Instructors include Bryan McCullough, Shayla Fields and Dadrian Cuthbertson. The camp will be followed by a 7 p.m. all-star game at North Rowan High. The game will feature local and international stars.
The McCanless Couples played a Captain’s Choice format on Sunday. The winning team was Glen Trexler and Gene and Mary Seaford.
The team of Bryan Reynolds and Bev and Ty Cobb placed second. Mary Seaford won longest putt, while Ty Cobb won closest to the pin.
• The Corbin Hills women hosted their annual Member-Guest event recently.
First low gross was won by the team of Kristi Laton and Lisa Sepesi. Becky Isenhour and Wanda Sanders placed second.
First low net was won by the team of Bev Cobb and Terri Donlin. Pat Moore and Peggy Dimperio placed second. Norman Burgess and Dot Henderson placed third.
Beth Calhoun and Nancy Albright took fourth.
