Severe storm warning issued: tornado watch in effect until 10 p.m.

Update: A severe storm warning for Rowan County has expired and a tornado watch has been lifted by the National Weather Service.
Though skies are clearing, there are some reports coming in about storm damage in southern Rowan County.

Update: A severe storm warning has been issued for southern Rowan County and Cabarrus County.
The National Weather Service said radar indicated a storm producing winds of more than 60 miles an hour could hit areas around Rockwell and southern Rowan County. The storm warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m.

Previous: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. tonight for Rowan County and surrounding areas, covering much of the Piedmont. A watch means there is the possibility of severe storms including large hail and high winds with some tornadoes forming. There have been no reports of tornadoes at this time.
A flash flood watch is also in effect through the afternoon.
Lines of storms are forming in both Carolinas, with general movement to the northeast.
