New livestock agent joining Cooperative Extension

SALISBURY — Thomas Cobb will be the new livestock/dairy/field crops Extension Agent for Rowan County. Cobb attended North Carolina State University, receiving associates’ degrees in agricultural business management, livestock and poultry management and general agriculture. Cobb also attended State University of New York at Cobleskill, where he received his bachelor’s degree in animal science.
Along with Cobb’s degree, he has experience working for a commercial grain farm in Hyde County, N.C., small grains research for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and helped manage a grass-fed beef operation in Wanerville N.Y.
While attending N.C. State University, Cobb served as president of the Agricultural Institute Club from 2009-2010, where he was involved in many community activities. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to get to serve Rowan County; I look forward to working with producers, youth and industry personnel on educating and solving problems within the county,” Cobb said.
