SALISBURY — The Cinemax suspense TV series “Banshee” started filming in western Rowan County this morning and crews plan to be in the area for about a week.

Today, crews filmed actor Rus Blackwell, who plays District Attorney Gordon Hopewell, approaching an old farmhouse on Cooper Road that a location scout called “the perfect house,” a county official said. The show is filmed in the Charlotte region but set in Pennsylvania Amish country.

Trucks and equipment lined Cooper Road, and dozens of cast and crew members could be seen behind a field of tall grass that stands in front of the house. Screaming Spirit Productions is using the house and a large barn as a backdrop for filming.
