Legal advice for the asking

Laurels to the lawyers who are participating in “Ask a Lawyer Day” today at the Salisbury Mall. During the event, which runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., people can sit down with a lawyer to discuss legal issues, without any charge or obligation. Several lawyers from the Rowan County Bar Association have donated their time to give free advice to people who might otherwise not have access to this kind of expertise. While legal issues can cover a gamut of topics, today’s session will probably bring several questions about bankruptcy and foreclosure proceedings, an unfortunate sign of the times — but also an area where sound legal guidance is critically important.
Laurels to the above message posted at Woodleaf Elementary School as students head home for summer break. Great advice for having an enjoyable vacation period — and avoiding the summer slump.
Dart to Salisbury’s losing out to Wilmington as the main filming location for the “Sleepy Hollow” series, but it’s a good bet that Salisbury and nearby environs haven’t seen the last of film crews and cameras. The N.C. Film Office lists at least 30 projects that have wrapped up shooting in North Carolina in the past year (including the “Sleepy Hollow” pilot that set up shop here), evidence of the state’s increasing popularity as a location for filming movies and TV series. It’s also obvious from the list that Wilmington has established itself as a prime location, with more than half of the past year’s projects filmed totally or partially in the Wilmington area. Chalk up “Sleepy Hollow” as a learning experience for Salisbury — and be ready when the casting director comes calling again.
