Strong tourney for Dixon

Roy Dixon (Salisbury) shot 67-71-72 — 210 and finished at 3-under in the Toshiba/CBI Carolina Open played at The Club at Irish Creek.
Dixon, who plays at UNC Greensboro, tied for sixth overall and finished third among the amateur entries.
Davidson’s Spencer Lawson shot 202 and won by three strokes. He finished at 11-under, including a second-round 65.
Kannapolis’ Rick Lewallen shot 213 and tied for 20th. Andrew Morgan (South Rowan) shot 221 and tied for 56th.
• Frank Adams III of Salisbury won his second Carolina Players Tour championship of the season at the Country Club of Salisbury Wednesday with a 7-under 68-67 — 135. Adams, who collected $3,600 on his home course, won by four strokes. He ranks second on the tour money list.
•The 18th annual Adam Myers Memorial Golf Tournament is set for McCanless on Saturday, June 15. Shotgun start is at 8 a.m.
Cost is $50 per person and includes lunch, tee buster and mulligan.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100. One player plays free with sponsorship.

The Rowan-Randolph game was rained out on Thursday.
Rowan (7-4) is scheduled to play tonight against the Mooresville Legends at Mooresville High.
• Mooresville Moors pitcher Hunter Harvey was the 22nd pick of the first round by the Baltimore Orioles.
The son of former MLB all-star closer Bryan Harvey, the 6-foot-4 right-hander was the 10th pitcher taken and the 10th high school player chosen.
Harvey was 8-0 as a senior at Bandys High with 116 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.38.

The Rowan-South Rowan Junior Legion game was rained out and rescheduled for June 28.
• On Wednesday, West Rowan won 10-8 against South Iredell.
Bryan Ketchie was the winning pitcher. Austin Love got the save.
Hunter Shepherd, Margarito Romero and Hunter Bernhardt all had a single and a double.
West is at home against South Rowan on Sunday.

The Kannapolis Intimidators were washed out on Thursday in Hagerstown, Md. The game will not be made up.
The Intimidators are at Greensboro tonight and will return home on June 10 to play Augusta.
• Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus) hit his fourth homer and stole his sixth base for Great Lakes on Thursday.

A.L. Brown’s 6-foot-6 forward Tydus Parks has signed with Caldwell Community College in Hickory.
Parks averaged 14 points per game for the Wonders (19-8) as a senior. He had two 23-point outings against Northwest Cabarrus, scored 22 in a playoff loss to North Forsyth, and had 21 against Mallard Creek.

Caldwell Community College’s 6-foot-6 Isaiah Cuthbertson (West Rowan) has signed with Mars Hill.

John J. Tuttle (A.L. Brown, Catawba) pitched eight scoreless innings as Asheboro beat Edenton 4-0 in Coastal Plain League action at Edenton’s Hicks Field.
Tuttle has thrown 14 scoreless innings in his two starts.

The benefit softball game between the Landis and China Grove fire and police departments was postponed until Monday.
The home run derby starts at 5:30 p.m., with the game at 6.

East Rowan Baseball Camp will be held June 17-21.
Times are 9-2 Monday through Thursday and 9 until noon on Friday.
The camp provides instruction in offensive and defensive fundamentals.
Drills will run from 9-11:45. Lunch is from 11:45-12:30. Games will be played from 12:30-2.
Friday is competition day with medals being awarded.
Players are videotaped hitting and fielding. The camp is run by the East coaching staff and team.
