Add to transfer convention: Super acceptance
Published 12:00 am Sunday, June 2, 2013
Here is an addition to the transfer convention. It’s called super acceptance. We know that if your partner bids a NT (15-17 points) and you have a 5 or 6 card major, you transfer to keep the contract played by the strong hand.
If the NT bidder has the maximum point count and 4 in responder’s suit, he can respond 1 level higher, inviting to game; hence 1NT, P, 2D, P, 3H shows 4 in the transferred suit and 17 points.
Now responder can pass if very weak, go to game, or if very strong, can proceed to explore a possible slam. Hope this helps you get where you belong.
Evergreen winners May 24: First, John and Myrnie McLaughlin; second, Ron and Shirley Jeffers; third, Marie Pugh and Ruth Bowles; fourth, Chuck and Margaret Rimer.
The featured hand is board #1 from Friday. No one vulnerable, North dealer The Jeffers defeated 5CE 1 trick for best N/S score while Dick Brisbin/Pat Featherston bid and made 4SE+1 for best E/W score
