A Salisbury man was charged with drug possession after authorities approached a smoke-filled vehicle in which he was a passenger.
Salisbury Police officers received a call Tuesday around noon about possible drug activity behind Hall’s Gym in the 1400 block of West Bank Street. When officers arrived, there were three people inside a vehicle behind the building. The officer saw smoke coming from the car and a marijuana cigarette in a cupholder. All three men were asked to step out of the vehicle. The officer noted the passenger, who was later identified as Christopher Michael Rhodes Jr., 20, of the 100 block of Clancy Street, was nervous.
When the officer checked the vehicle she noticed marijuana underneath the seat the passenger had just been sitting in that weighed 383 grams (13.5 ounces), $215 in cash and a set of scales in the door compartment. Rhodes was charged with felony possession with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was given a $2,500 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
