The Community Care Clinic is involved in it’ first annual appeal this month asking Salisbury/Rowan County residents to provide financial support for this clinic that serves the uninsured.
I am an employee of the clinic, but also a patient. I have asthma and have had significant dental issues. If it weren’t for the clinic, I would have severe difficulty breathing which would limit my ability to work on days when I feel the worst. I am proud to say that since I became employed over a year ago, I have not missed a single day of work for illness. I am very proud of this record. I feel called to write this letter because I personally don’t have much money, but I have seen firsthand what even a small donation can do to help our patients. Whether it is $1, $5 or $100, each $1 can mean $8 worth of care. There is no donation too small. We hope that our appeal is successful so that we can continue to meet the needs of people like me who want to work and give back.
Many thanks in advance for your consideration. Our address is 315G Mocksville Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144.

On the May 22 opinion page, Democratic political consultant Gary Pearce quotes Joe Bryan, chairman of the Wake County commissioners, as saying, “You’ve got some lingering tension over the victory we had in the Senate yesterday.”
Mr. Pearce goes on to explain to us all how the agenda of the Republicans has nothing to do with what may be best for our state, rather it’s all about payback and political revenge.
The second sentence put into quotation marks is, “We’re going to undo everything Democrats did, just because we can.”
We are led to believe that this is a direct quote from Joe Bryan. If this is the case, Mr. Bryan should apologize and lose all credibility.
However, if this is not a direct quote from Mr. Bryan, and merely speculation from Gary Pearce, Mr. Pearce should be ashamed of himself, definitely lose all credibility, and apologize not only to Mr. Bryan, but to all who read the Salisbury Post, and any other publication his article may have appeared in.

Editor’s note: While the quote marks may have created some misunderstanding, the context of the sentence indicates this is part of Pearce’s own characterization of “an underlying legislative theme,” not a direct quote from Bryan.

The Republican-led N.C. General Assembly proposes a tax plan that will cut taxes for the rich while raising taxes on the elderly and the poor by increasing sales taxes they will have to pay. That will hurt a number of elderly and poor people who do not have the funds to pay these increased sales taxes. This tax plan will also hurt a number of people when needed programs are cut because of less revenue coming in. The elderly and the poor paying taxes on prescription drugs, etc.? What are they thinking of? Oh, I forgot — Republicans only care about their rich cronies!
