Rowan-Salisbury School System has eliminated 70 positions, including 50 teachers in a process that school officials say is required by general statutes.
School System Spokeswoman Rita Foil said letters were hand delivered Tuesday, a day before the notification deadline, informing the 50 teachers and 20 other employees that, in light of state and federal cuts, their positions were being eliminated.
“This is a normal process and we are hopeful with the state budget that we will be able to hire back some employees and staff members,” Foil said.
Some of the eliminated positions were identified through resignations, retirements and temporary positions. Foil said it is not clear how many of those 70 positions the school system would be able to hire back.
